TED Fellow Meklit Hadero is an Ethiopian-American singer and song writer. Her music takes on influence from her heritage, life, and likes; coming together to make a Ethiopian, jazz, folk and rock & roll fusion.

Melkit’s latest project is The Nile Project – the Silk Road of music – bringing together 18 hip-hop, traditional, and contemporary musicians living in the Nile countries (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Egypt).

The fruits of their labor can be heard on any one of the media platforms below. The album – named after the Egyptian city where the album was recorded live in January 2013 – features 18 musicians from Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda and takes inspiration from the musical traditions and instruments of the Nile Basin.
